Assistance to the Integration of
Demobilized Child soldiers (AIDC)

4. Fields of expertise

  • Basic and civil education in the Centre for basic education (CBE);
  • Technical and professional education in the Professional Training Centre (PTC);
  • Installation in an environment open to development (Community village, cooperative village, or pilot farm)   preferably in a rural area;
  • Cultural activities and sports;
  • Rehabilitation (medical and psychiatric care).

5. Strategy

A fresh and innovative approach which puts an emphasis on intensive short-term courses (general education and technical and professional education) based on work-oriented teaching, alternative/rotating education and the principle of lifelong education. This strategy focuses essentially on:

  • general education (basic education, literacy, civic education, sports and cultural activities) for 5 months in a  Centre for Basic Education (CBE);
  • a 5 month’s course in technical and professional education in a Centre for professional training and settling  problem children aged 10-15 years into a plan to create cooperative villages;
  • installation and providing of technical and moral support in the Co-operative village

  • AIDC is in no way in competition with other aid agencies/organizations it has an open structure. Our aim is   to fill in the gap and we are open to those partners/sponsors  interested in our work. Partnerships are vital  to our work;
  • We would like to join together with other partners/sponsors and share our experience. Carry out joint  actions and put our resources at the service of underprivileged children, victims of the madness of adults;
  • Promote initiatives in favour of the rehabilitation and reinsertion of these children.
 

1. History and creation

The idea of creating the Association for the Integration of Demobilized Children (AIDC) came about after various contacts with different people interested in the problem of child soldiers (United Nations agencies, Representatives of countries concerned, NGO, representatives of civil society), during the 56th meeting of the Commission on Human Rights (April 2000) in Geneva, Switzerland). It was founded on 13 June 2000 (French Law of 1901 – Official paper of 8 July 2000)

2. Organization

AIDC holds a general Assembly, has a pilot Committee (Board of directors), Secretariat and representatives in certain countries: Democratic Republic of the Congo, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, etc
